Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo started his 100th Premier Class MotoGP Race today at the Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland. He wrapped up the 30-lap contest at the Sachsenring in 11th place. Remy Gardner enjoyed his second race experience aboard the YZR-M1, completing it in 20th position.
Silverstone (UK), 4th August 2024 : The Monster Energy British Grand Prix is always a very special event for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team, sharing the same title sponsor. However, on today's vintage-themed race day, the team was even more keen to put their best foot forward. After a solid start and a hard-fought end to the 20-lap Race, Fabio Quartararo took the chequered flag in 11th place.
A strong start by Quartararo saw him move up from P18 on the grid to P12 in the opening stages of the first lap before he settled into 13th place. A double-long-lap penalty for Franco Morbidelli had the Frenchman move up to 12th again. He was briefly in 11th place as he overtook Maverick Viñales, but it wasn't to last.
It looked like it would be a lonely ride for the Frenchman, who was lapping with a big gap to both the rider ahead and the one behind him for a while. But Viñales came within Quartararo's grasp again and with five laps to go El Diablo overtook him. Now on a second wind and keen on a top-10 finish, the Yamaha rider was chasing down Jack Miller and passed him with two laps to go. However, Quartararo immediately had to defend the position from a charging Franco Morbidelli. Though the number-20 rider tried to make his YZR-M1 as wide as possible, he ended the Race in 11th place, 24.202s from first.
Today's results see Quartararo move up one place to 14th in the overall standings with 49 points. The injured Rins (who withdrew from the British GP on Friday) remains in 21st position with 8 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP keep their 9th place in the team championship with now 57 points, and Yamaha hold onto 4th position in the constructor’s championship with 53 points.
The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team will be back in action at the Spielberg Track in Austria in two weeks' time at the Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich.
